Thadeus Smith

Hello! My name (as the URL so helpfully indicates) is Thadeus Smith. I am an educator, writer, and Wikipedia administrator from the Pacific Northwest, now living in Boston. I love books, movies, Wikipedia, and speech & debate.

What I’m doing now (October 2026)

Working. I’m the Director of Education at Lumos Debate, where I supervise our Boston-area classes, train our instructors, and run monthly tournaments. I am also a freelance speech & debate coach at national circuit competitions, primarily for the American Heritage School in Florida, and edit the Big Questions and Public Forum briefs for Champion Briefs.

Driving. A 2019 Kia Sportage with 100,000 miles.

Editing. I’m currently taking part in the October 2026 Good Article Nomination Backlog Drive. Next month, I’ll be participating in the Asia-Oceania Destubathon and the Unreferenced Articles November 2026 Backlog Drive.

Exercising. Climbing at Central Rock Gym and going on long walks through the city.

Listening. My coworkers have fantastic music taste and have been putting me onto some great stuff, like MUNA’s “Big Stick,” Zach Bryan’s “Robot Killed the Working Man,” and Daisy Grenade’s “Emily.”

Performing. Jean Gabriel-Marie’s “La Cinquantaine”, Schinichi Suzuki’s “Prelude and Berceuse,” and Yoshinao Nakada’s “Song of the Twilight.”

Photographing. I attended HONK! and Boston Book Festival for WikiPortraits. Turns out that my outdoor photography is a lot better than my indoor photography, but I bought some portrait-oriented lenses and am excited to try them out soon! I’m currently shooting on a Nikon D5600.

Playing. UNBEATABLE, The Loopler, Confidential Killings, and Stardew Valley.

Reading. I’m currently reading Michael Clune’s Pan. Just finished Nicholas Binge’s Ascension.

Watching. I just started watching Slow Horses and Abbott Elementary (both are great!), and I’m always drowning in my Letterboxd watchlist backlog.
